Random Bits and Pieces

Hilarious cat emoticons: Just because I feel like it.

Baby Box Turtles! These little darlings are spending the Thanksgiving week with me while school is out. They were brought in by a student whose mom had bought them at a garage sale. The story told was that they had a pair of turtles who were very fertile. Luckily, the babies fell into my sphere of influence and are receiving top notch care and feeding. Yeah, that's my dog's nose at the left edge of the pic.

I'm just guessing, but this seems like phony science to me:

The upside of the Wildcats not making playoffs, is that FPM gets to come home for Thanksgiving. WooHoo!

TestCase got a new job. He is now selling cars for the local VW dealership. When he sold his first car, his boss cut his tie in half. Unfortunately it was borrowed from dear old dad. That is what Christmas is for, right? -to buy the men in the house new ties! Anyway, he has sold 4 cars already in 2 weeks. He is only 22 years old, so it is a good time to try it out.

AND the best news of all. Recent blood tests have revealed that all is well in medland. WooHoo number 2!

I agree that freerice.com is completely addicting.

Finally, if you want to have a good short scare, check out Lady Axe's site, Helltic and check out her short film "Ukoyika". It was chosen for a South African horror short-film festival. It is all good fun and I promise it is not too frightening.

Wow, thanks for the plug, C!!!
I'm glad you liked the flick and I'm happy to see I toned it down enough not to be scary!

I prefer the cats to the emoticons too! Its brillianT!!!

glad you get your son for thanksgiving. how does he feel about it? this was one of the weirdest years ever in college ball.

hope you and your family have a great thanksgiving!!

the turtle's are very cute, but i have to confess, this is a germaphobe thing of mine, i am so scared of the germs they could carry, like salmonila poisoning....i know, it takes all the fun o/o it doesn't it? one of our neighbor kids was carrying a couple around and i freaked at my kids touching them, i was like "wash your hands!! just look, don't touch them!!" i felt bad for the turtles tho, this girl was only 4 and she was dropping them and not taking care of them at all and her parents don't watch her so they weren't any help at all. i don't know what happened to them..

Dogs love turtle treats!

Good deal on the meds, Claire...

The turtles are very sweet. What a pity people do such irresponsible things as selling - and buying - living creatures on a whim at something like a garage sale.

I too love the cat/emoticon pics!
That tie cutting thing at your sons new job is a weird ritual. But hopefully it is a good job nonetheless! Yeah on the medical fron!

Box Turtles at a garage sale though!?! Tsk,tsk It is illegal to sell baby turtles and I believe that is a federal law because children think they can put them in their mouths and don't understand what Samonella is all about.

At least these ones found a responsible person to look after them, but if it were up to me. People would be required to take an eight-hour training class before being allowed to purchase Herps or amphibians. I've heard the most awful things happen to them when people don't want them anymore. Just because something can't scream doesn't mean it can't feel pain. (If you want to see pics of my rescued aquatic turtle, just type in "yertle" on my blog serch box.)

Ok, I'm stepping down from my soap box now. Whew!

Have a great thanksgiving!!!!
-P

tess- thanks, you have a good one too!

lgs -agree

axe -it was still scary, just not so much that a weenie like me couldn't watch it!

Rose -I hope yours is relaxing

jojo -'perfectly' scary

ann - thanks for the good wishes

kris -we pick him up today and he says he is ready to be home for a few days. I've always had lizards and turtles around my kids and have never had any problem with illnesses.

Claire said...

mark -yeah, Crystal would lick them to death if I let her. Since the new meds, TestCase feels more confident that he won't have a seizure.

val -yes, I feel the same way, it's awful. Whoever these people are, they should separate the male and female so they won't have any more eggs hatching.

proxima -here, here sister, I am right up there with you on that soapbox. I feel strongly that humans should be protective stewards of this earth. The creatures of our planet should be treated humanely precisely because I do believe they have feelings too, especially primates.

I'm not even a cat person, but those are hilarious. How can I not like cats, but I always think their goofy faces are a hoot?

I'd like to see a turtle face emoticon, showing fear of large dog schnozzles.

Hi Clare,
I'm here directly from Ann's blog.
I *love* those emoticons and I don't even own a cat. Terrific!!!

Oh, those cutie pie turtles also got to me.

(I noticed on your profile you work w/ special needs people. I used to be a special needs therapist before I plunged forth moreso into the art world, but I still keep my toes wet. It's so rewarding.)

jocelyn -what's not to like about cats?? dog schnozzles are completely harmless in this house!

b.t.bear & Dan -Happy Thanksgiving!Thanks for visiting.

gel - your paintings and photos are quite lovely.
